Statement of JOHN MOSS, Candidate for City Council Member Occupation: Marketing Program Manager Age: 55 Education and Qualifications: Princeton University: BSE, 1964 Stanford University Business School: Sloan Fellow, 1974 My wife and I settled in Los Altos 23 years ago because this is a community where families flourish. Our two daughters have thrived here. I am running for council to preserve this environment. Excellent public schools help make Los Altos a desirable place to live. For the last eight years I have served on the Los Altos School Board (President 1993), helping a good district become one of the nation's best. Despite good intentions, our city government sometimes seems off the track. The council needs to develop priorities and major goals that it, city staff and the community can use for guidance when making decisions. Given community interests in education, youth development, personal safety, neighborhood preservation, traffic reduction, fields and parks, cooperation between Los Altos and its school districts should be better. My school board experience uniquely qualifies me to lead improvement in city-school relations. With eight years of success overseeing school district budgets, 14 more on boards of nonprofit organizations, and 32 in business management, I've shown that I can get the job done on a tight budget. Let's work together to make Los Altos city government more effective and responsive!
