Doug Quelland will not run for more than three terms. He is not a career politician and believes in setting term limits.DOUG QUELLANDS'S VIEW ON TERM LIMITS At the heart of my running for U.S Congress is my belief that career politicians are not in the best interest of our country. The framers of our Constitution, I believe, meant for citizens who were farmers, doctors, and lawyers to go to the seat of government, make the laws and then go home and live under these laws. To make the laws, support government policies, defeat bad legislation, and to fairly hear all side on proposed legislation, a law maker (U.S. Congressional Representative), must know how and what the citizens in his/her district think. Living and working in your district for a number of years certainly qualifies me for that type of position. However, career politicians who continually live in Washington D.C or its suburbs have lost contact with the people who elected him/her. Their perspective is not one of how do these laws affect my neighbors and community but rather just another piece of legislation that he/she may or may not have the time to research and connect back home with his/her constituents. I pray and worry about our next generation. The next election is of no importance to me whatsoever. The task at hand, the job before me, the reason for the office and the commitment to my community is all the reason I need to put all my efforts into representing my district, with no concern for being re-elected in the next election. I believe from reports I've read that the average representative in Washington D.C. spends 45% of their time on re-election. His/Her time is further consumed by Party Caucuses, Party fund-raisers and meeting with lobbyists from outside his/her district. It becomes plain to see where your average congressman's priorities lie. I believe in Term Limits and I've signed a pledge to the people of the Arizona and the 4th Congressional District that I will not serve more than three terms. End of discussion, end of debate but the start of what I feel is my commitment to my community, my neighbors, my district and to the next generation of Arizonians Against All Odds,"I will be your next U.S. Congressman in the 4th District." |
