Program Initiatives

By John A. Donofrio

Candidate for Treasurer of State

This information is provided by the candidate
Several program initiatives for the Treasurer's office that can help make it more responsive and responsible to the citizens of Ohio.
Our first initiatvie is called Schools First. Working with the legislature, this program would increase funds available for Education without raising taxes. Under this initative, businessess would be given the opportunity to pay their estimated taxes before the final due date. In exchange, they will receive a reduction in their tax liability. The Donofrio Treasury will then invest the money at a higher rate fo return. The additional earned interest revenue would be set aside for distribution to school districts throughout the state. This is a way for the State Treasurer's office to compliment other state funding programs for schools and an example of how the Treasurer's office can be a part of the solution to Ohio's moxt complex problems if the State Treasurer helps lead the way.

Under our Deposit 2000 initiative, State Funds would be placed in an electronic clearinghouse managed by the State Treasurer's office. Banks from across the state will be placed on a level playing field by having an immediate opportunity to bid for state deposits through a special electronic network designed for use by eligible Ohio banks. This new program will insure that each community throughout the State receives their fair share of available state deposits to increase fudns for loans to Ohio citizens and businesses. Previously approved financial institutions throughout the state will immediately have access to the Donofrio OHIONET to electronically submit their bids. Both large and small institutions will have equal access to the program with a goal to place state funds in each county of the state.
