Biographical Notes on Waldo Hinshaw, Candidate for the Burlingame School Board

For almost 10 years, Waldo Hinshaw has been active in supporting the Burlingame schools. He has assisted the Burlingame Community for Education Foundation in all of its funding-raising programs. He set up and maintained the BCE database for two years. He and his wife, Susan Kopiwoda, received the Burlingame PTA Council's Honorary Service Award in June 1998. He has been a member of the Roosevelt Dad's Club and received the Roosevelt Scroll Award.

He has two children in the Burlingame school system,. Both children started kindergarten at Lincoln School and one transferred to Roosevelt School when it recently reopened. Both children are now at Burlingame Intermediate School

Waldo obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of North Carolina and then spent several years teaching and doing research in England. He continued this activity at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as an Associate Professor in the Harvard Medical School. He set up and headed their Magnetic Resonance Imaging program.

He has had extensive business experience and has held the following positions: Vice President of Engineering for Technicare, a fully owned subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson.

  • Chief Operating Officer for Biomagnetic Technology, Inc.
  • Vice President of Engineering for the Toshiba division in South San Francisco.

In these positions, he had responsibility for and experience in understanding, overseeing, and managing large budgets.
