Political Philosophy for Nadia V. HoloberCandidate for |
Dear Millbrae Neighbor: As parents of young children, my husband and I looked for the perfect place to raise a family. We found it right here in Millbrae. I am running for City Council because I want to give something back to the city that has given our family so much. This is an exciting time for Millbrae. The arrival of BART presents both challenges -- to protect our small town qualities -- and opportunities -- to enhance our economic and tax base to our advantage. We need experienced leadership with vision to make sure BART works well for Millbrae. I am the Chair of the San Mateo County Planning Commission. During my six years serving on the Planning Commission, I led the planning of the area impacted by the successful Colma BART station. I also crafted an ordinance that made childcare more available, and helped to preserve open space for our enjoyment. I know how to work with our diverse community. Last year, I served as the Chair of the Millbrae 50th Anniversary Committee. Our committee brought thousands of local residents together in a yearlong celebration of our city. Funded by voluntary contributions, our committee also donated new exercise equipment to our senior center and left a legacy of gifts and a sculpture for our civic center. During the past months, I have campaigned door to door throughout Millbrae. I have learned a tremendous amount listening to your concerns and opinions. I will serve as I have campaigned -- reaching out to all segments of our community, seeking your ideas. I am committed to making Millbrae an even better place for all our residents. This is my pledge to you. I would appreciate your vote. Sincerely, Nadia Holober My Priorities For Millbrae Are: · Make BART work for Millbrae. Millbrae must focus on parking controls and traffic routing to keep out-of-town commuters from congesting our neighborhoods. I'll fight for better bus services to make BART convenient for Millbrae residents to use. · Better recreation for teens & seniors. Our Recreation Center should have extended hours on weekends with innovative programs that appeal to teens. We should expand after-school offerings. Our seniors deserve enhanced activities and transportation assistance. · Revitalize our shopping district. Downtown Millbrae needs a better mix of stores and services. When we shop Millbrae, we keep our tax dollars here to pay for police, fire fighters, parks and other vital city services. · Preserve our small town qualities. I'll demand the highest standard of public safety for our residents. New development should harmonize with surrounding neighborhoods. Together, we'll keep Millbrae a great place to live and raise a family. |
