Full Biography for Dave WardenCandidate for |
My family has lived in Belmont for almost half a century. My parents bought their first house on Hiller Street in 1953. I am the youngest of three sons that my parents raised in Belmont, and my mother still lives in Belmont today. I attended our Belmont schools: IHM, Barrett Elementary, and Ralston Middle School. I graduated Carlmont High School in 1979, and I received the Bank of America award for top Science and Mathematics student from the Sequoia Union High School District. I also won the Most Outstanding Mathematics student award all four years at Carlmont. I received a Computer Science degree from U.C. Berkeley in 1985. I taught three upper-division courses at Berkeley, which was a rare accomplishment for an undergraduate. I also held an internship position with IBM during the summer months. After graduation, I worked for several Silicon Valley start-up firms and developed successful products for a number of companies--including Sony, Zenith, Samsung, RCA, Casio, Panasonic, and the U.S. Navy. My carreer progressed from Software Engineer to Development Manager and finally to Engineering Director. I founded a part-time consulting firm, Software Essentials, in Belmont in 1989. In 1995, I launched my own full-time business. Over the years, my company has developed software for consumer electronics, robots, test equipment, lasers, and medical equipment. I'm very proud of the products that I've developed, and I've received four U.S. patents for my innovative engineering. I married my wife, Lisa, in 1996, and we purchased our first home in Belmont. In the last few years I have become very involved in Belmont civic affairs--I have attended City Council meetings religiously for over two years, and I was appointed to the Belmont Planning Commission to fill out Terri Cook's term when she was elected to Council in 1997. The Council has re-appointed me to the Planning Commission again this year.
I'm also involved in several Belmont community organizations:
