There is an increasing disquiet among us about the quality of our public schools. The most obvious is teaching and instruction, which of course the school board of trustees and school administrators effect. The quality of school life also includes issues such as safety, after-school programs, athletics and facilities, which should be addressed by both council and the two school distric
I support any positive efforts directed at improving the relationship between the city and the two school districts. Key Point: If elected, I would be willing to serve in any appropriate liaison role between council and school districts. I support increased partnering between the city and the school districts which solve problems of mutual concern or provide benefits to the constituents of both entities. Safety is an example of an issue which is both the responsibility of the city and the schools. The best solutions to safety concerns will come from partnering activities. After school care is another community need which is most optimally addressed through broader efforts, such as partnering. Community facilities are one last example where partnering is important. In the future the city and the school districts should join forces to develop facilities which serve multiple community uses, such as the proposed Ralston Middle School multi-use performing arts cent
