My statement from the Voter Pamphlet
I respectfully seek re-election to the Zone 7 Board so that I may continue to address the many water- and flood control-related issues facing the Tri-Valley. After graduating from St. Mary's College and attending U.C. Davis, I returned to the Valley where I've worked in the wine industry for more than 40 years. I've seen the Valley grow, and I'm aware of the challenges that growth presents. Ensuring that we have an adequate supply of safe and reasonably priced water is a major responsibility. This includes protection of our groundwater, our "safety valve" should other water become less available. I support the use of recycled water for landscape and agricultural irrigation. I don't, however, support the injection of reverse-osmosis treated wastewater into the groundwater basin unless it is clear that the community feels comfortable with the practice. I also support maintaining water levels in Del Valle Reservoir so that recreational use of the reservoir is not impaired. Flood control is just as much a challenge as water. I'll work towards a balance between protecting impacted properties and the tremendous cost to taxpayers of developing new flood control facilities. I look forward to continuing to serve you.
