GEORGE'S BIO George was born in Alameda, California and raised in Oakland. He attended Horace Mann Elementary, Frick Junior High and Fremont High School, class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Laney Junior College in Oakland, receiving a certificate in Welding Technology. He worked in the metal trades for a few years, before finding a niche in the trucking industry. He retired from B & B Grading and Paving of Concord, in 1993. George has been married to Carol for many years; they have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. GEORGE'S POLITICAL HISTORY Georges political activity started in the 1960's when he worked on stopping the Peripheral Canal. When he moved to West Pittsburg, in 1988, he felt something was wrong with a town without it's own identity. When the opportunity presented itself to change the name of this community, George promptly went to work and was elected Chairman of the Committee to Rename this community; Bay Point. In 1993, the signed petitions (over 2,000 signatures) were presented to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors who authorized the League of Women Voters to conduct a referendum election to determine exactly what the voters wanted. The voters overwhelmingly chose Bay Point as the name of this community. The name change took effect on August 6, 1993 and we haven't looked back. George was appointed to the Traffic Advisory Committee in 1993, and the Project Area Committee (Redevelopment) the same year. He then ran for the Bay Point Municipal Advisory Council defeating eight candidates. In 1996, he ran for and was elected to the Ambrose Recreation and Park District Board of Directors and was again the top vote getter. George decided to run for the office of Supervisor to continue the work he began with Supervisor Joe Canciamilla. George and his supporters feel he is the candidate best suited to respond to the changing environment in East Contra Costa County. The challenges awaiting the Supervisor elect will be staggering. Development, the Urban Limit Lines, and Highway 4 are just a small sample. George is committed to maintaining his integrity by refusing to become beholden to special interests. George will support "RATIONAL DEVELOPMENT", where we will consider the impact on the infrastructure, including employment, before we approve new development. He will support the Urban Limit Lines as now drawn. Highway 4 presents a special challenge. No one has ever focused on the Railroad-Loveridge bottleneck. If this had been addressed in the 70's, it would have cost about $10,000,000. Today, this project will cost over $160,000,000. George will focus on securing both State and Federal monies to widen and improve this short section of Highway 4, which will allow eight lanes all the way to the Antioch Bridge and Oakley. He will also insist that right of way for light rail be included in all new highway construction. Whether you live in Antioch, Bay Point, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Pittsburg or Oakley, or in unincorporated Contra Costa County, the best choice for Supervisor is George Delacruz As you can see, George has the experience necessary to properly do the job of Supervisor in the fifth district of Contra Costa County. He is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents of Contra Costa County, but more importantly (and this is where your decision becomes so very important) for the residents of East Contra Costa County! |
