William J. Garbett first noticed politics when as a youth, he traveled to Washington D.C. employed by the fourth estate. Raised in Illinois, graduation was from Moline High School, then entering the U.S. Navy at age seventeen. Early assignments were being a Human Resource for the Armstrong Laboratory at Brooks AFB. As a subject, he was involved in early tests in space, atomic, biological, and chemical warfare beyond the point where death normally occurs. After leaving the Pacific Missile Range at Pt. Mugu. he studied nuclear physics full time at college. Receiving a `Kentucky Colonel' for his additional service to the state police in communications, reassignment was to duty in the Mediterranean Sea. Later service was in multiple campaigns during the Vietnam area as a specialist in electronic warfare. His graduation from San Jose State University followed additional work at Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies between degrees. Working as a metrologist (measurement science) and consulting engineer in Silicon Valley involved telephone, crypto, aerospace, and microwave projects until his retirement. He has served both as a leader and board member on many professional, community, and church organizations. His wife and two daughters, with three grandchildren, compete for his spare time. He frequently attends meetings involved publicly as an intervener and representative on political issues. William J. Garbett is currently a candidate for San Jose City Council District 10 in the election March 7, 2000. |
