Fitzgerald is a native San Franciscan, 64, married, a home-owner, and the father of four children. Fizgerald is a graduate of Saint Ignatius College Prep. and holds an Associate of Arts Degree from City College of San Francisco. Fitzgerald also attended University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. Fitzgerald served as a past elected member of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee for twenty-three years, and was a former Corresponding Secretary of that body. City College Graduate Fitzgerald, working with former Community College Board Member John Riordan in the 1970's, made the initial suggestion for course offerings in Collecctive Bargaining at the college, which in turn, with Labor input, led to implementation of the Labor Studies Program there. Fitzgerald currently favors light rail transit from downtown San Francisco to Sausilito via. the Golden Gate Bridge Corridor. (A 1989 study by T.Y. Lin International Consulting Firm confirmed the feasability of a lower transit deck for that bridge.) Fitzgerald feels that light rail transit is vitally needed to alleviate the current horendous traffic conjestion in the Golden Gate Bridge Corridor. |
