The Only Way Traffic Congestion can be Improved is through Regional CooperationCommute traffic congestion: Cooperation with Lafayette and Orinda, as well as other jurisdictions, such as the County Connection and BART is the best approach to improve and mitigate commute traffic congestion. I have supported Tri-Council meetings with Lafayette and Orinda, which have been successful in raising a number of ideas that are in various stages of moving forward. Examples are the idea of a BART shuttle, increasing open space, stronger mitigation measures in our General Plans, and the two planned park-and-ride lots in Moraga. Also, I supported the Harrison Road Capacity Study that was funded solely by Moraga, so that we could find out the available capacity of the primary arterials. This study has assisted us in the ongoing General Plan review. Tri-City Collaboration not only has generated a number of good proposals as to traffic and open space, but it fosters a positive attitude that other regional issues can be better handled by talking about them with the other councils. I believe that there will be future Tri-City meetings, which I support. |
