Contra Costa County, CA | November 7, 2000 Election |
Community control of community servicesBy Joan K. GallegosCandidate for Director; Kensington Police Protection and Community Services District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The community will need to monitor closely developments at the state level that may threaten the continued existence of independent special districts.Proposals in the state legislature and a proposed initiative, both dealing with the allocation of property tax revenue, would, if adopted, abolish independent special districts. Kensington would then be subject to the whims of the county for the provision of services we now provide for ourselves. Our recent battle with the county to retain control of our waste disposal services does not augur well for the county's regard of our ability to manage our own affairs. |
