Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dan Richard

Candidate for
Director, Dist 1; S.F. Bay Area Rapid Transit District; Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate

I've been very proud to apply my business experience to BART. When I first joined the board, BART had virtually no budget process, little long-range planning and had not set aside monies for system rehabiliation.

Today, BART's financial health is very strong. There is a massive rehabiliation program underway, with funding I helped secure from federal, regional and local sources. BART's credit rating is one of the strongest of any transit district. BART's budgeting process is open, public and comprehensive and is tied to a strategic plan that has the support of the entire board.

I also believe we've made BART's contracting process less political and more open to small businesses. As a former small business owner, I've pushed to make sure BART treats local small businesses fairly, paying promptly and cutting red tape in the procurement process
