I have decided to run for City Council, along with Steve Netherby, to help preserve our unique beach town, to represent its citizens in preserving the quality of life that means so much to all of us, and to: · Create a user-friendly government, where citizen input is valued and utilized early in the process. Put the citizens back in city government by creating citizen advisory panels! · Approve only responsible and appropriate growth that fits within our City's tradition and vision. Water and air quality, traffic, parking, scale, and infrastructure impacts must be carefully scrutinized before any decisions are made. Think "Better, not bigger"! · Stop the Foothill South Tollroad! Tollroads throughout the county are a financial disaster, and yet some government officials keep forging ahead. Although the toll road may provide short-term benefits to some, we must look at the long-term loss to most of us including: open space, habitat, air and water quality and overall quality of life. Other alternatives for solving traffic problems need exploration. · Focus on promoting the success of local businesses to serve the community as well as our visitors. Vacant or failing stores do not produce needed revenue or high morale for our community. Attract quality anchors and make El Camino Real at Del Mar (the T-zone) an attractive and user friendly shopping/dining experience, not a ugly hodge podge of patchwork Band Aids. · Consistently uphold, and where necessary, strengthen codes and standards throughout the city including the coastal and historic area. These areas represent the heart and soul of our village, which should not be sold out to blight, over-building and poor planning. · Invest the time, and resources required to construct a new high school for our children. A new high school is needed to properly accommodate our current and future students, not an expensive Band Aid. As Vince Lombardi said, "Alone we can accomplish so little, together, so much." Join our team! Vote for Stephanie and Steve for San Clemente City Council! P.O. Box 1058, San Clemente, CA 92674 |
