Biography of Lawrence R. "Larry" Labrado, Jr.

Lawrence R. "Larry" Labrado, Jr., candidate for Orange City Council, was born and raised in the City of Orange and currently holds the position of Development and Communications Manager for the Coro Foundation, an organization dedicated to preparing individuals for effective and ethical leadership in the public arena.

Growing up in the City of Orange, Larry attended Sycamore Elementary School, the Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) Program at La Veta Elementary School, Portola Junior High School and Orange High School. Larry's commitment to public service began in his early years by his active involvement as a YMCA Indian Guide and Boy Scout. This is where he learned the importance of giving back to the community that he calls home.

Following his graduation from Orange High School, Larry studied at Cal State Fullerton where he graduated with his B.A. in Political Science and has completed graduate work towards his Masters Degree in Public Administration. While attending Cal State Fullerton, Larry was a very active participant on campus and served in a variety of leadership positions including serving as the President of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, President of the Inter-Fraternity Council and Vice-President of Administration for the Student Government. For his service, he received the Greek Man of the Year Award and was recognized by the Inter-Fraternity Council for Outstanding Achievement. But the thing that Larry cherishes most is his activity with Camp Titan, a student run camp for underprivileged children, where he volunteered a great deal of his time for over six years.

After college, Larry began his career with Leadership Long Beach, a leadership development organization focused on improving the Long Beach community. He was then recruited to join the Coro Foundation, where he is currently employed.

Larry is a member of the Orange YMCA program committee, the Future Leaders of America-Orange County Advisory Board, the Orange Dog Park Association, the Cal State Fullerton Titan Advocates and the Orange County Public Affairs Association.

As a Councilmember, Larry will focus on engaging the community in Orange City Council business. He promises to study the issues and then ask the question: How will this impact the citizens of Orange? The decisions Larry makes must benefit the entire community and not special interests.
