Recruiting Qualified TeachersBy Carmen MontanoCandidate for Governing Board Member; Milpitas Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Finding and keeping good teachers must be a top priority for our schools. As a public school teacher with many years of experience in classrooms in several districts, I know how hard it is to keep good teachers. We must begin earlier recruitment of excellent new teachers leaving the university systems. We should investigate recruiting veteran teachers who may be dissatisfied with other districts as well. I know we can make Milpitas Unified a magnet for qualified, competent teachers. Although I believe we must pay our teachers more, I do not think that the process of attracting excellent teachers is solely dependent upon salary. From my personal experience and from interviews with other public school teachers, I am convinced that master teachers look for positive work environments and a supportive parent community in addition to high salary. When elected, I will work to encourage those in our schools. |
