Why John is the Best CandidateBy John G. SchroederCandidate for Judge of the Superior Court; County of Santa Clara; Office 2 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I am the only candidate for Seat 2 with proven judicial experience. I am currently a Commissioner of the Superior Court and have served in that position for the past three years. Prior to that I was the Family Court Mediator and served as the primary settlement officer for the Superior Court for three years. During that time, I personally conducted over 3,000 settlements which saved litigants and the Court time and money. I am committed to the use of alternative dispute resolution techniques in order to save valuable judicial resources and taxpayer money. As a Commissioner, I hear and decide cases every day in the Superior Court. In addition to my regular law and motion calendars, I handle a weekly contempt calendar and hold violators of court orders accountable for their actions. I have a reputation for being firm but fair and decisive with the individuals that appear in my Court. I hold violators accountable for their actions. Also, I often deal with the sensitive and emotional issues of custody and visitation of children. I handle requests for restraining orders as well as requests for emergency protective orders by law enforcement to protect victims of violence. I am used to the time pressures as well as the other issues presented with high volume calendars in the Superior Court. For two years I called the Domestic Violence Calendar of the Superior Court. I have been the chair of the Court Systems Committee of the Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council. I was also part of the committee that established the first Domestic Violence Conference in Santa Clara County. I am sensitive to the victims of domestic violence and violent crimes. I have taught about Domestic Violence issues throughout the State for the last five years. For the past two years I have been selected the "team leader" for the course on Family Law offered by California Judicial Education and Research (CJER) which is the educational arm of the Administrative Office of the Courts. This honor is evidence of my knowledge and my abilities in the law. In my capacity as team leader, I helped to reorganize and develop a comprehensive approach to teaching Family Law to judges that are new to that assignment throughout the State of California. As you can see from these web pages, I have been active in education for the legal community as well as the judiciary. I am committed to education to improve the bar and the judiciary. I have a proven record of hard work and dedication to the law. In this era of consolidation of the duties of the Superior and Municipal Courts, it is even more important that judges have experience in many areas. Many of our Superior Court departments are criminal/civil combinations. Having handled probate, guardianship, personal injury, contract, corporate, family, workers compensation, juvenile as well as criminal matters during my career of over 24 years. I am prepared to be a Superior Court Judge. My knowledge of these areas of the law has helped me in my present judicial assignment and will help me in my future position as a Superior Court Judge.
I ask for your support for my candidacy for Seat 2 of the Superior Court. |
