> Beginnings Born and raised on the Central Coast, I have settled in Scotts Valley to share my education and work experience in the community where I live. My family heritage has strong roots in Santa Cruz County. My maternal Great Grandparents settled here in the 1940's, raising their children in Santa Cruz. I have over 5 generations of relatives still residing in this area. It was a natural place for me to return to as an adult and pursue both my personal and professional life. I became active in local politics at the request of my friends and neighbors over a highly contested development. By forming the "Scotts Valley Community for Compatible Growth," we were able to work with the city and developer to significantly reduce the size and environmental impacts of this project located at 28 Mount Hermon Road. Since then, I have continued to be active in my community working with other community groups, businesses and developers. Because of my strong positions regarding water conservation, responsible development, community senses building, and creative ways of bringing increased tax revenues to our City I was appointed to serve as a Planning Commissioner for Scotts Valley. > Education /Training With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a focus in Planning Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I have the necessary education to contribute a positive impact in our community. I began my work experience in the United States Army. I have served in the military for over 13 years, most recently as a Finance Officer in the United States Army Reserves. I attribute my success in business and grassroots community building to the incredible opportunities I received over my many years in the military combined with my education and work experience. > Work experience I possess over ten years Project Management experience as well as facilities, operations, administration, human resources, and finance. Today, I am the co-founder of a successful high tech start-up company located in Scotts Valley. CSTONE Inc. was started as a garage-shop company several years ago. In March of 1999, the company formally incorporated, enhanced it's business model, and relocated to over 18,000 s.f. of office and manufacturing space. Today, CSTONE continues to grow, profit, and provide increasing job opportunities to this community. I understand the challenges of managing people, budgets, and complex projects and will use this experience to help run our City. > Hobbies/ Interests My hobbies past and present include work with the Contra Costa and Alameda County Habitat for Humanity programs. I am a consultant for other start-up companies and homeowners associations in and around the bay area. Over the course of the past seven years, I have served in various board and advisory capacities. I am involved in the Cal Poly Alumni Association and a member of the Project Management Institute. I enjoy my pets immensely. I have a Tennessee Walking horse named Rhythm and two kitty pals, Abigail and Dakota. |
