I am a retired California public school superintendent. I was awarded a California State Fellowship enabling me to attend and receive a Ph.D. degree at U.C. Berkeley. The award was for "outstanding teaching." I've been a high school dean, high school principal and the superintendent of three elementary school districts. I consistently raised educational achievement levels in every school and school district I served in spite of economic and language barriers to learning. Since retiring, I have taken a very active part in the affairs of the Santa Cruz City Schools. I have attended almost all board meetings for the past six years. I was a full-time volunteer for Propositions E & H for the duration of the campaign. I serve on the district's Bond Oversight Committee and the SCCS's Bilingual Education Committee. I am a frequent contributor/writer on educational matters to the Santa Cruz County Sentinel. |
