Better libraries, school facilities and fair teacher compensationBy Fel Anthony AmistadCandidate for Member, Board of Trustees; San Mateo County Board of Education; Trustee Area #4 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Schools must improve facilities so that students can learn and attain educational goalsI believe that schools are shortchanged. Board members must connect with the community they serve. The status quo is inadequate. New and fresh ideas and experiences are needed in the current board. High technology and computer literacy are needed now than ever, given the competitive global marketplace surrounding us. As a board member, I am well versed in economic and financial strategies and issues. Financial analyses of budgets and fair treatment of school issues must be handled by experienced professionals. However the board must decide on the proper and prudent allocation of funding special programs and the like. As a member of the board I will insure that libraries and special programs in schools are not shortchanged. As a concerned parent, I would want my children to be educated properly and adequately. I have a serious stake in San Mateo County's educational system. In the special programs arena, I will ensure that internet and computer use be available to special students with compromised capacities so that registering for classes can be made easily or that students can take classes via the web. Efficiency and maximum use of technologies are vital to efficient learning skills. |
