Christine is a candidate for the 76th California Assembly District, to replace termed-out incumbent Susan Davis. Christine currently serves on the San Diego City Council. She was first elected on November 2, 1993 and re-elected to the District 3 seat in 1996 with 79% of the vote.

A San Diego resident for 22 years, Christine became active in California politics when she coordinated the San Diego County campaign to defeat the statewide LaRouche initiative in 1986. She subsequently worked as a senior aide to a city councilmember and later ran and won that same seat. She is the first member of the gay and lesbian community to be elected to public office in San Diego.

At the time of her election her council district had some of the highest crime rates in the city. Promising to reduce the crime rate and increase public facilities, she garnered support for a public/private partnership that build a police station, library, a tennis and swim center, Headstart classrooms, play fields, and a theater in the heart of her urban district. Through her efforts the construction of Interstate 15 through Mid-City was started in 1995 after years of delay. The 8-lane highway opened in January. Christine has also leveraged city funds to build 2 new elementary schools in her district and expand an extended day program A6 to 6" for students at over 100 public schools.

In 1997 she was appointed to the California Coastal Commission where she has fought for greater environmental protections for the state's natural resources as well as for expanded public access to California's 1100 miles of shoreline.

Christine is endorsed by the current Assemblymember, Susan Davis, the California State Democratic Assembly Caucus, Speaker of the Assembly Bob Hertzberg, and Senate pro Tempore John Burton. (Complete list attached.) The district includes much of her current city council district and has elected Democrats for the last 10 years. Typical of urban San Diego, the district tends to be socially moderate and fiscally conservative with a significant number of swing voters that pay close attention to the issues.

She lives with her partner in the North Park community of San Diego.
