Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Doug Goodman

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Livermore

This information is provided by the candidate

My political philosophy is no different from the way I have always approached life in general. It revolves around two words, Proactive Leadership.

The saying "It can't be done" is only a challenge to make something happen. Creativity comes from knowing it is just a matter of finding the way.

The City must define what it wants, the quality of life its citizens deserve, then actively go after those things that will make it a reality.

Proactive leadership means proactive listening. The citizens of Livermore must know their views and opinions will be heard and considered. No one person, group, or elected body has a monopoly on good ideas.

All issues have at least two sides. Leadership is the ability to bring all sides together, creating an environment for open dialogue where win-win results are achieved. The current City Council calls consensus 5 - 0 votes. I define consensus as community consensus.

Integrity goes hand in hand with leadership. When the City Council directs something to happen in response to a citizen's request, there must be follow through with reply back to the citizen or citizens who prompted the action.

Accepting responsibility for one's actions is leadership. If a mistake is made, admit it, correct it, and make something happen.

These are all things I believe in and have practiced throughout my life. As your Council Member, I will bring these things to the City Council.
