When I was first elected to the Cerritos College Board of Trustees, the college was spending over a million dollars of it's reserve in order to balance the budget. Since I was elected, we have balanced all budgets and the college has a prudent reserve. I am proud of what we have accomplished in the past few years. We have remodeled the Library and the Student Center. Our new Teleconference Center is allowing some of our students to meet "live time" with other professors and classes from Universities around the United States. We have purchased over 2000 computers for our students and faculty. We have two large computer labs that are open to our students 14 hours a day. Many of our faculty have received National Awards. We have a nationally known "Teacher Track" partnership with Long Beach State to help get more qualified teachers into our local school districts more quickly. Cerritos College is now considered one of the most Technologically advanced Community Colleges in the State of California. I feel that it will be inportant to have experienced leadership on the Board of Trustees over the next few years. The govenor cut the budgets that the State Legislature approved for all Community Colleges this year. We have been told that the State of California will have an even more difficult time balancing the budget next year. This will probably mean that more cuts will have to be made in the State Budget for Community Colleges. I believe that I have the education and experience to help guide the college during what may be difficult years ahead. |
