The Rowland Unified School district is an incredibly diverse community, and in a time when Americans need leadership, a school board can do a great deal to set an example and provide a strong direction for the local community. I would ask the people of the Rowland Unified School District to consider voting for me so that I can help bring the district together. My experience in business and education will help me bring people together to solve problems. Communication is an essential element in finding solutions and my collaborative style will facilitate this. My wife Maria and I are 24 year residents of Rowland Heights and all of our children have gone to Rowland schools. My youngest daughter is currently a sophomore at Rowland High School. I am a successful businessman with a keen sense of budgets and operations, and a proven track record in the attainment of goals. My business success is a result of listening carefully to the needs of my customers. Listening is crucial in doing my job and is essential in fulfilling the duties of a school board member. Today's school board member is faced with many issues, but student achievement must be every member's priority. My background in education and thorough knowledge of curriculum uniquely prepares me for this role. During my thirty-year career in education, I have been a teacher, curriculum developer, author, and an officer in the largest professional organization dedicated to literacy in California. Education is my full-time business; my vocation and my avocation. School board members have the obligation to ask the tough questions. I am willing to ask them and to do my homework to gain the necessary background on district issues. |
