Candidate for
Board Member; Point Montara Fire Protection District; 4 Year Term

I am a long time Moss Beach homeowner, a chiropractor with an office in San Mateo. I have been involved in the fire service for almost all of the last thirty years. From being the firefighter on the end of the hose to my current position as President of the Board of Directors of the Point Montara Fire Protection District.

Almost immediately upon my election four years ago, I was called to administer what was really a revolution of fire services delivery in our district. You, the public were demanding paramedic services and resisting any increase in tax. Within our own district, and acting alone, providing those services was not possible. The solution; combine forces with the Half Moon Bay Fire District and find an equitable way to share the cost.

Your Board was diligent and vigilant. We were fair to all district personnel and no jobs were lost. We maintained the highest quality standards and created a way to meet your demands. In the process, we found ways to save money too.

Under my watch, our District has received awards and federal grants, ($13,500 this year) I believe for the first time in district history.

Management of the budget has been an ongoing task for the Board. With good management we were able to purchase a much needed new fire engine, without resorting to borrowing and needlessly paying finance costs. Our firefighters asked for and received pay increases. We are planning improvements to our fire station to improve functionality.
