Answer: YesI was appointed as Chairman of the Citizens Committee for Preservation of our Fire District in 1995. The objective of the Committee was the passage of a ballot measure - Measure H - in the November 1995 election which was necessary to save our Fire Department from financial collapse. The reason for the financial emergency is that the State of California was taking funds from Special Districts in California and giving it to the schools leaving our Fire Department with only 2/3 of the money it needed to survive. Measure H was successful and the Fire Department was saved. After that I was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors. One of my objectives was to run the Fire Department as efficiently as possible without sacrificing the mission of safety of lives and property. The Measure H tax was initially set at $177 per parcel and has remained that way ever since despite recent increases in tax revenues due to new construction and re-assessments of real property on sale. The level of the Measure H tax can be set from $0 to $250 at the discretion of the Board of Directors. I believe it is time, after 6 years, to examine the level of the Measure H tax to see if it can be modified in light of the increase in the general tax revenues to the Fire District.
