Personal & Professional History Birth Through High School I was born in Sidney, Ohio on 20 June, 1964 to Phyllis E. (Hatcher) & Frank J. Schlagetter, the fourth of four children. My eldest sister Melissa is deceased; my brother Jeff is an electrician in Florida & my sister Jocelyn is a database administrator living in Orlando with her husband Sylvain. My mother retired to Florida in 1993; my father passed away in April 2000. His second wife resides in Florida. Other than a brief residency in Denver, Colorado during the first grade (father was transferred), I lived in Sidney until coming to Cincinnati in 1982. I attended public schools in Sidney: Whittier Elementary, Northwood Middle & Sidney Senior High. I developed an early interest in the natural sciences & my elementary teachers indulged me by letting me perform "experiments" for classmates. I also developed an early interest in the performing arts & mounted two stage productions at Whittier with classmates. I also began drawing buildings at this age, having traveled to job sites with my father who at the time sold school furnishings for Brunswick. I vaguely recall visiting Procter Hall at UC's School of Nursing. Hobbies through high school included still & 8mm photography, model railroading (HO scale) & kit model building. Growing up I had the opportunity to earn spending cash by working at the Holiday Inn- Sidney where my mother was Bookkeeper & eventually Assistant General Manager. I credit this experience with impressing upon me the importance of customer service, respect & business ethics. Active in school theater & an exchange student in Hamburg, Germany, I graduated 39th out of 310 in 1982 & remain close to my high school friends. College & Graduate School In September 1982 I entered the Department of Architecture at the University of Cincinnati. I enjoyed cooperative employment opportunities in Sidney, Dallas (TX), Fort Lauderdale (FL), Covington (KY) & Cincinnati. I participated in foreign study programs in Helsinki, Finland (1986) & Fontainebleau, France (1987), and in 1988 traveled to London, England to research my Senior Thesis. I was privileged to have Peter Eisenman, architect for UC's Aronoff Center & Columbus, Ohio's Convention Center, on my Thesis review jury. I graduated with the Alpha Rho Chi Medal in Architecture in May 1989. In 1996 I returned to school full-time. I entered the University of Miami (FL) to pursue a Master's Degree in Business Administration. I graduated in May 1998 with specializations in Management Science & Logistics. Business My cooperative employment through UC's Architecture program allowed me to work for several different firms in different cities & states. Upon graduation in 1989 I returned to work for AM Kinney Associates, Inc., with whom I had previously interned. In February of 1990 I struck out on my own, working with world-renowned local architect David Niland & others. I had the unique opportunity to work in the Art Department of the film production "Rage in Harlem" &am grateful for my screen credit! I obtained my Ohio Architect's license in 1991. I maintain Ohio licensure & am NCARB- (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) certified. In July 1990 I returned to full-time employment at Fluor Daniel, Inc., a full-service Engineering/Procurement/Construction firm with local offices in Springdale. I worked for FDI through June 1996 when I took a Leave of Absence to return to school full-time & obtain my MBA. While in Florida I performed statistical analysis for several professors & maintain a Miami client to this day. I also worked part-time for two architectural design firms & had a Graduate Assistantship in the Computer Information Systems department. In addition to grading weekly assignments for 100+ underclassmen, I coordinated our underclassmen CIS tutors & assisted with managing the computer lab.
