Trina Thompson Stanley was appointed Alameda County Superior Court Commissioner in January, 2001 with 16 years experience in handling cases from misdemeanors to homicides and capital litigation. Currently, Stanley sits as Juvenile Court Commissioner, hearing juvenile delinquency and dependency matters. Additionally, she is chair of the Alameda County Educational Task Force for the juvenile court to ensure the education of state-raised children. Prior to her appointment as Court Commissioner, Stanley managed a private criminal defense practice, emphasizing juvenile, misdemeanor, felony and capital defense trials. She also handled cases involving juvenile dependency in adoptions and guardianship. Previously, Stanley worked in the Alameda County Public Defender's Office as an Assistant Public Defender representing and defending criminal clients through preliminary hearings. Stanley also held positions with Judge Henry Ramsey, Alameda County Superior Court; the law offices of Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus & Vlahos; the National Center for Youth Law; the law offices of Howard Moore and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Stanley received an A.B. in Legal Studies from the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law in 1986. She became a member of the California State Bar in 1987 and the Northern District of California, U.S. District Court in 1990. Stanley has received numerous academic and civic awards and honors, including:
Stanley grew up in Oakland and Vallejo, California and resides with her husband and two children in the Bay Area, where she is a member of the Allen Temple Baptist Church. |
