El Dorado County, CA | March 5, 2002 Election |
WaterBy Karen SmithCandidate for Supervisor; County of El Dorado; District 4 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Withholding water must not be used as a tool for controlling growth. This is not in the best interests of our citizens. There are many important issues facing us today. Some of which are the County General Plan, fire protection, law enforcement, traffic, road maintenance and employment opportunities. One of the hot buttons facing us today is water, especially in my district, and our participation in the SMUD re-licensing effort will be one of our most important projects over the next 6 years. With the license application needing a 2 year lead time and that license being contained within the 4th district, the next supervisor who represents district 4 will be engaged in the process for a number of years. While the SMUD licensing agreement may have been satisfactory 43 years ago it is woefully inadequate for today and tomorrow. I am not about to stand here and pretend to be a water expert, but there are those who are and should I be chosen to hold down the 4th district seat I will seek their council. We do not need a supervisor who is in league with those who would deny us water as a way of controlling growth. Allowing SMUD to complete the re-license process without a substantial improvement in our standing is not an option. |
