Chuck DeVore - Biography

Chuck has served the Republican Party actively since 1981 when he started a College Republican club at Cal State Fullerton. In the 2000 Presidential election cycle, he actively helped the campaign of George W. Bush as the Co-Chairman of the 47th Congressional District. In this capacity he made numerous speeches (before and after the California primary election), wrote several letters to the editor, and worked as a volunteer, walking precincts and leading a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) headquarters on Election Day.

In the last years of the Reagan Administration, from 1986 to 1988, Chuck served as a White House appointee in the Pentagon. As Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, his duties included analyzing and reporting on Congressional actions that impacted on the President's foreign and military policy.

In 1988 he served as State Senator (now Congressman) Ed Royce's District Representative, then moved to become Chris Cox's Director of Public Liaison for his first (and successful) campaign for Congress. Through 1990, he served as Congressman Cox's Senior Assistant and, as such, was his primary public representative in his district office.

He was first elected to the Orange County Republican Party Central Committee in 1992 and re-elected in every election since. He sits on the Executive Committee and is Chairman of the Ethics Committee. He is also a member of the California Republican Party. He is a frequent speaker on behalf of the Party on the issues of defense and foreign policy.

From 1991 to 1996, Chuck served as a City Commissioner for the City of Irvine. He was Chairman of the Community Services Commission from 1994 to 1995 and Vice Chairman from 1993 to 1994.

Since 1991, Chuck has worked for Emergent Information Technologies (and its Steven Myers & Associates (SM&A) subsidiary), a $45 million per year aerospace firm specializing in proposal leadership and program integration. He is the Corporate Vice President for Communications and also serves as Vice President of Research for SM&A.

Chuck is a major in the Army National Guard. In 1983, Chuck became a citizen-soldier when he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. In 1985 received his commission through ROTC, was named the Outstanding Cadet and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. Chuck now serves as S-3 of the 2d Brigade, 40th Infantry Division (Mechanized) of the California Army National Guard. While serving in the National Guard and Reserves he has gone to Panama, supported Desert Storm from Fort Irwin, and patrolled the streets of Los Angeles during the L.A. Riots in 1992. He has several awards.

Chuck graduated with honors from Claremont McKenna College with a degree in Strategic Studies. While a student at Claremont, he studied abroad at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He attended college on a full Army ROTC scholarship.

In early 1998, concerned about the rising Chinese threat to Taiwan, Chuck initiated a project to write a realistic novel about why and how the Chinese might invade Taiwan. With co-author Steven Mosher, "China Attacks" was completed in early 1999 and reached the top 3% of fictional bestsellers published in 2000 on Amazon.com. The book has received favorable mention on the pages of The Financial Times, The Los Angeles Times, the Taiwan Daily News, the China Post, the Taipei Times, and many other papers and outlets in America, the U.K., Canada, Taiwan, China, and Germany. The Chinese language edition of the book was published in January 2001 and sells in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Chuck's writings have appeared in the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Orange County Register, the Taipei Times, Human Events, Red Thrust Star (a professional U.S. Army publication) and others.

Chuck and his wife of 14 years, Diane, have two daughters, Jennie, ten-years-old, and Amy Anne, four.
