I have been raised in the City of San Josè since childhood and grew up in the Northside neighborhood a few blocks north of downtown. I am the only son in a family of nine. My parents, like many of our country's proud immigrant communities, came to the United States from Mexico to make a better life for themselves and their children. As a result, our family has prospered and each of us has continued to be contributing members of our community. I am a graduate of San Josè High School and San Josè State University where I obtained my degree in Public Administration. As a life-long activist I have always been committed to supporting our community and serving the neighborhoods I grew up in. This appreciation for public service led me to work for the Cindy Chavez for Councilmember campaign. Following her successful election to represent the downtown district I joined her staff at City Hall. I have worked as a Policy Analyst and community liaison and have gained experience working with both the community and with our City government. This experience has resulted in improvements to the quality of life for neighborhoods throughout district three. I continued to serve as an advocate for our neighborhoods and neighborhood associations and have played a leading role in the City's Strong Neighborhoods Initiative, which has empowered residents, community groups and business owners as they work collectively to create a vision for their community. Now, as a candidate for Mayor, I want to continue to expand the role of neighborhoods as they work toward building a new vision for community-driven government and representation at City Hall. My grass-roots campaign is based on the belief that the community is a better judge of what is good for their neighborhoods. I seek to restore the accountability, trust and pride that residents deserve to have in their elected public servants. As Mayor of San Josè I will work to be a leader and role model for our residents, businesses, working families and our youth. As Mayor I will work with our community to develop a long-term vision for our City and our local government. As Mayor I will work to make our public policy process more inclusive and accountable to the people of San Josè. My goal is to preserve the integrity of our city as an attractive place to live, to work and to raise families for this generation and the next. I would be honored to represent my community as Mayor and will work tirelessly and faithfully to restore the dignity and respect of that office. My name is Jose Posadas and I am a candidate for Mayor of the City of San Josè. |
