San Francisco is 83% registered Democrats. When we get voter turnouts of 15% (Dec) and 25% (Nov) and percentages in the 30s in years before that, then there is a serious problem. Three out of four registered voters are choosing not to vote. On a bigger scale, 15,000 out of 20,000 registered voters are choosing not to vote. Something is very wrong and the DCCC is not doing its job to engage all citizens in participating in democracy. The current and past leadership are closing San Francisco's Democratic party. This will ultimately hurt the California Democratic Party and will also be a threat to this nation. Without voters and participation, there really is no democracy. That is the path that the DCCC is taking us down. It needs to change. · Voter turnout (25% in the November General Election and 15% in the run-off is alarming). · Making the party accessible to more individuals both as activist and candidates. I see too many elected positions filled by "professional machine politicians" and the SFDCC facilitating this process. I believe that opening the party up is a key step in re-engaging voters (increasing voter turnout), having the best possible representation, and giving strength to democracy. · Providing an economic-focus along with a progressive-focus to the Democratic Party in San Francisco. |
