Political Philosophy for Mike Serpa
Candidate for |

|
As your next Stanislaus County Assessor, my top priority will be "protecting taxpayers". I am the only candidate that has proven that I will stand up for taxpayers. I have a record as a fiscal watchdog. I've opposed budget increases, and fought against bonds that increased public debt $10 million more than necessary. As County Assessor, I will protect your rights under Proposition 13, with the lowest property taxes allowable. I will use technology to make the Assessor's office more efficient. More importantly, I will listen to the needs of you, the citizens. I will be accountable to you, and ensure that your assessments are always fair. Under my leadership, the Assessor's office will be innovative, and be run efficiently and effectively to serve the people. I have worked in the Assessor's Office for 22 years. I earned a national Distinguished Research and Development Award for my innovative work to improve services provided by the Assessor's office. Currently, as Senior Appraiser with the Stanislaus County Assessor's Office, I have also held public office as a Modesto City Councilmember for the last 6 years. I was a Modesto Planning Commissioner from 1993-1995, and a Stanislaus County Housing Authority Commissioner from 1991-1996. Government administrators are not easily held accountable, elected officeholders are. I support people over politics. As an elected official I know what it means to work for the citizens, and I want to hear from you. I welcome any questions you may have and look forward to your call. (phone: 527-3190) I am a native of Modesto. I attended Modesto Junior College and received my Bachelor's degree with highest honors from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. In addition to my national Distinguished Research Award, I have been recognized by Sheriff Les Weidman and Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza for identifying new technology to help lead the fight against meth in our valley. I am a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, and I have numerous community service affiliations. I am a past President of the Modesto Lions Club, a member of the United Way Building Strong Neighborhoods and the United Way Allocation team, and a member of the Hispanic Leadership Council. I was President of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Stanislaus County, and served on the Board of Directors of the Police Activities League, the Stanislaus County Federal Credit Union, and the Stanislaus Emergency Food and Shelter Program. |
