Managed Growth

By Loucy W. DeAtley

Candidate for Member, Town Council; Town of Danville

This information is provided by the candidate
Though growth is inevitable and highly desirable for the economic health of the community, sprawl and growth without infrastructure must be stopped in its tracks.
There is a candidate or two in this election who would like you to believe that they support managed growth. Nothing could be further from the truth. These people, even against the wishes of sports organizations to which they belong, have supported sprawl, traffic congestion and overcrowding.

Fixing the timing on a few traffic signals is a good idea but hardly a panacea for controlling congestion. The only way to do that is to force developers and the County to abide by level of service and traffic agreements which they initially agreed to and now want to change.

The Alamo Creek development is a good case in point. It was strongly supported by one of the current candidates.

This stunninly destructive development decimates ridgelines, squanders water and obliterates traffic management. It thumbs it nose at a decade of development agreements and regional planning efforts. For the life of me I cannot figure out why anyone in their right mind would allow this development to go forward.

And yet one of the candidates fully supported this travesty at County Supervisor meetings and with web-sites and flyers.

Some developers you can work with;some just ruin it for everyone else.

We want leaders who recognize the differnce and negotiate for the benefit of the entire community rather than strike some Faustian deal with the devil for a couple of sports fields in the middle of nowhere.
