GrowthBy Bill Gram-ReeferCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Concord | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Let's put Concord first!Too many times, Concord's "growth debate" gets reduced to insider horse- trading between greens and developers and those who stand to gain like builders, trade unions, politicians and planning commissions. The problem with this process is the needs of many Concord residents: especially the poor, elderly, disabled, minorities, children, immigrants and the community -based organizations that serve those populations get left out of the discussion. That's why we need Concord's growth to serve all of our community's interests, not just the special interests. This is what it means to put Concord...all of us.... first! Concord should put social services on an equal footing with planning and development. The loitering issue on Monument Boulevard and other locations in Concord underscores the urgency for honestly and openly addressing the neglected social dimension of Concord's growth instead of letting the usual suspects play an elaborate game of chicken with Concord's future. |
