Deterioration and PovertyBy Hal NetkinCandidate for Councilmember; Proposed City of San Fernando Valley; District 11 | |

The enforcement of traditional American Building, Safety, and zoning codes is what separates us from third world countriesMy district (Van Nuys) and other parts of the Valley have taken on the look of a third world country due to the lack of pro-active code enforcement by the Department of Building and Safety. While the Department of Building and Safety devotes their time to enforcing zoning and safety violations when it comes to long time middle class tax paying, law abiding valley homeowners, it virtually ignores zoning and safety violations by the poorer class -- such as illegal sidewalk vending, multiple families unlawfully occupying small apartments, families living in garages, and etc. This de facto policy has turned Los Angeles into a rich and poor class city, chased away business, and guaranties further importation of poverty. As the District 11 councilman, I will call for the strict enforcement of city Building and Safety and Zoning codes. |
