Plan for the Valley

By John Quinn

Candidate for Councilmember; Proposed City of San Fernando Valley; District 11

This information is provided by the candidate
Areas of concern that I will address when elected.
Make our neighborhoods safe.
1. Put more police officers in the field. Currently the Valley pays for more officers than it gets. By keeping the money in the Valley we can increase the number of officers in the field without increasing taxes.

2. Install streetlights in communities that need them and pay for the lights from our general fund.

3. Encourage citizens to volunteer with police to reduce crime.

4. Develop more after school programs to keep kids out of gangs.

5. Make graffiti vandals financially responsible for the damages they cause.

Business.

1. Work within the entertainment industry to curb run-away production, which costs the Valley millions of dollars a year in lost wages and services.

2. Rejuvenate local business areas.

3. Construct a stadium that will attract professional soccer and football teams. Professional teams generate millions in fees and services yet LA can't keep a professional football franchise.

4. Immediately eliminate the transfer tax, saving homeowners and property owners in the Valley $30 million a year.

5. Eliminate the gross business tax.

6. Reduce red tape and cut managerial expenses.

7. Bring Fortune 500 companies back to the area.

8. Develop the land and aviation needs of theVan Nuys Airport.Education,

Parks and Libraries.

1. Work with educators and parents to develop a better school system with local accountability.

2. Strengthen our library system.

3. Develop more community educational programs for parents and seniors.

4. Offer more English language classes for adults.

5. Establish more parks while improving our existing ones.

Ecology.

1. Encourage business and environmental groups to work together.

2. Help businesses conform to environmental standards by offering grants and low interest loans.

3. Enact beautification programs and plant trees.

4. Begin a program that will eventually replace above ground power lines and polls with underground connections.

5. Encourage the growth of public transportation.

6. Improve our air quality and drinking water.
