Council Member; City of Brea

Honorably discharged from the United States Army. John attended Nassau Community College and the State University of New York. He completed his education in the evening, while working full time as a design engineer and raising a family on Long Island, NY, earning Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) degrees in Mechanical Engineering.

John brings a broad range of relevant experience to his role as a Brea City Councilmember. His sense of responsibility, maturity, and common sense approach to decision making is well grounded: • In his engineering role, John uses his intellect to resolve complex issues that affect airline safety. • As a licensed Master Electrician in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY, John used his hands to get things done, being committed to excellence and giving people value for their dollar. • As a church volunteer, John uses his heart to relate to people, because he cares about the issues affecting their lives.

John and wife Sharon are extremely proud of their shared family of six adult children and 13 grandchildren (9 boys & 4 girls). With the ever-present dangers of a post 9-11 world, they are especially mindful of the dangers faced by John Jr., a Major in the US Army, who served our country in Bosnia as a flight surgeon; and son-in-law, Andy Hardy a Captain with the Ventura County Fire Department. "We are equally proud of all our children," John stated, "who recognize and are grateful for the privilege of living in the greatest country in the world and raising fine, responsible children." Having a mom who is 90 years young, John is well aware of, and sensitive to, the needs of our seniors, whom he recognizes as an important part of our community.

During his professional career, John served in leadership roles on a number of major aerospace programs, both military and commercial, including the design and development of Boeing's 767 & 757 commercial transports, and the Northrop B-2 Stealth Bomber, where he was entrusted with one of the nation's highest security clearances: top secret SAR (special access required). He is Director of Engineering for Parker Hannifin Corporation, Customer Support, in Irvine, CA, with responsibility for worldwide technical services and airline safety.

Being unamously appointed to the Brea City Council in November 2001, John serves on the Development Committee, and as an alternate on the Finance Committee. Recognizing the importance and potential long-term impact of regional matters on the City of Brea, John also participates in the League of California Cities, Orange County Division.
