My greatest goal is to get PRIVATE EDUCATION QUALITY at PUBLIC EDUCATION PRICES for the students in our school district. ACADEMIC STANDARDS ARE UP - I promoted the start of the requirement for a 2.0 GPA to move from Jr. High to High School and for High School Graduation - we are leaders in the State on this issue CHARACTER COUNTS is a staple throughout the district to teach our students how to respect others and to be responsible citizens of our community. I have worked to promote the notion that BEING AN AMERICAN is more important than anyone's ethnicity. HONORING AMERICA should be taught to our students EVERY DAY. I will continue and expand our efforts to integrate students with the real working world via the Transportation Academy and our relationship with the construction trades. Bond money will be husbanded to the last penny to get the most value for our students and to upgrade our schools appearance and infrastructure. I am working on RAISING ACADEMIC STANDARDS AGAIN by requiring a 2.0 GPA in core subjects, Math, Science, History, English, for promotion to the next grade level. I am also working to stop the social promotion in the elementary schools. They are promoting students with 2nd and 3rd grade abilities in reading to the Junior High Schools. This is wrong and I will continue to work to stop it. RAISING EXPECTATIONS has gotten better results from our students than lowering standards. I DO NOT ACCEPT EXCUSES in lieu of teaching our children AND IT IS WORKING!! I believe that getting a diploma from AUHSD means: ·Students going to college WILL NOT need any kind of remedial training in English or Math; ·Students going to work WILL be able to read, write, understand directions and NOT need remedial training by an employer; REMEMBER: #3 ON YOUR BALLOT Harald G.
