Transit & Regional GrowthBy Chris ChristensenCandidate for Council Member; City of La Mesa | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
When elected, I will work to update the La Mesa Comprehensive Plan and Map to reflect dramatic changes since the last map revision dated 1996.As Council member, I support and welcome the acceptance of a larger share of the region's growth through smart growth, public/private partnerships, transit oriented development, stepped back mixed-use zoning, and community sensitive development and redevelopment. La Mesa already supports and acts in stewardship over a large share of the unincorporated area of Eastern San Diego County. My plan to modify and update the La Mesa Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Map will rely heavily on citizen input, focus groups, and feedback coupled with responsible, professional municipal/urban planning. The future of La Mesa as a national model of a modern, transit-oriented community is achievable and obtainable. My goal in office will be to encourage the development of creative housing solutions within La Mesa consisting of but not limited to row houses, multifamily development, modular construction techniques, mixed use facilities and block development. The role of government at the local level in encouraging a strong real estate environment is to provide a blueprint of proper planning, zoning, enforcement and infrastructure to support smart growth and development. The key is planning, not reacting. When elected, I will begin work on an updated comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning overlay map to replace the current map from 1996. Very few people are aware of this immediate need and I plan to include and introduce several improvements to the current map. An important part of this process will be to hold community focus groups and forums to listen to all citizen perspectives on the future development, direction and growth of La Mesa. |
