James Green, RN. who lives in Noe Valley, was born in San Francisco in 1953 and grew up in the Haight-Ashbury and the on the Peninsula. In 1971 he attended San Francisco State College where he earned a degree in Economics. In 1977 he took a position as Paramedic with the Department of Public Health's 911 Emergency Ambulance Service and worked in the Bayview-Hunters Point district. In 1981 he became a Police Officer in the San Francisco Police Department and worked at Mission and Ingleside Police Stations.

In 1985, after traveling abroad for a year, he returned to the City and resumed working as a Paramedic while he completed a degree in Nursing. In 1992, when City budget deficits eliminated his job as a Paramedic he went to work as a med/surge Nurse at San Francisco General Hospital and later took a position as an emergency department Nurse at San Mateo County General Hospital. In 1995 he returned to work as a Paramedic. In 1997, when the City's 911 Emergency Ambulance Service was merged into the San Francisco Fire Department, he received training as a firefighter and now works for the Fire Department as a Firefighter-Paramedic.

One of his proudest moments occurred in 1991 when, after a year of research, proposal writing and hard work, he convinced Mayor Art Agnos to sign legislation designating the Park Emergency Hospital building on Stanyon Street as the City's 201st historical landmark.
