Vision StatementTracy Schools: A Personal Vision I believe that providing our young people a quality education is the most important thing a community can do. As a school district, we are here to improve the lives of our children. My vision of the Tracy School District is one where the student achievement will be compared favorably across the state instead of across San Joaquin County. I believe that student achievement should be the primary focus of our educators and that the test scores of our middle and high school kids need to be lifted above the state average. As a district we should study the success stories in high performing schools and districts that are similar to our schools and bring the successful techniques, curricula, and strategies to Tracy. I believe that modeling peer success can improve the performance of our schools. My vision of the Tracy School District is one where our teachers have the facilities necessary to provide our kids with a quality education. We must pass Measure W and Proposition 47. We need quality facilities to maintain safety, recruit and keep great teachers, and reduce the hidden but unrelenting maintenance costs of aging, worn out facilities. With interest rates at 30 to 40 year lows, now is the time to invest in new construction. My vision of the Tracy School District is one where Tracy is held out as the model for communication with the community. I would like to see us clearly identify the issues, describe the goals we are undertaking to address those issues, and measure the progress toward those goals in a clear and straightforward manner. Personal Background Lynette and I have four children in Tracy elementary, middle, and high schools and we have a strong vested interest in seeing that our children receive a quality education. Together we have demonstrated a commitment to our schools by serving on school site counsels, parent faculty clubs, and with countless hours as classroom and special event volunteers. In 2002 South/West Park School named Lynette and I School Volunteers of the Year. I have a 19 year financial and management career as a CPA, Chief Financial Officer, and General Manager. I possess financial experience not currently present on the board and I believe that my presence will help to balance the skill set of the current board. I am very proficient in working as a member of a team and have a great deal of business experience that has direct application to the 90 million dollars our school district spends each year. After serving for three years on the South West Park School Site Counsel, I have a strong under standing of the day-to-day operations of our schools. |
