Ballot Statement

By Jonathan Lundell

Candidate for Board Member; Cabrillo Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I attended New College in Sarasota, Florida, where I studied philosophy. Since moving to the Bay Area in 1970, I have worked continuously in the Silicon Valley computer industry. A self-taught engineer, I have served as chief engineer, chief technology officer, and chairman of several technology companies.

I strongly support universal free public education (including transportation to school) as the foundation for an egalitarian society, with equal opportunity for all our citizens.

Our District's Facilities Master Plan is based on old, badly mistaken assumptions about growth. Fiscal responsibility demands a critical review of the Plan's assumptions and conclusions before plunging into multi-million-dollar spending programs.

It's time to overhaul the budget process. Long-term commitments made with short-term funding results in program slashing like we're seeing this year. A downturn in the economy should not be a surprise.

We hope to embark on significant new construction projects soon. Here's our chance to show leadership, both in our community and statewide, in the use of energy conservation and renewable energy, for a healthier environment for all of us, as well as reduced operating costs, saving money to be used for higher priorities.

I ask for your vote.
