Candidate's Statement

By Valerie K. Brown

Candidate for County Supervisor; County of Sonoma; Prior Supervisorial District 1

This information is provided by the candidate
My qualifications as presented in the Voter's Pamphlet
I am running for First District Supervisor because I am committed to representing eastern Sonoma County. I served this district for three terms in the State Assembly, and as Mayor of Sonoma. I believe my experience as a policy maker and community advocate, coupled with my knowledge of the district will make me a strong voice for issues we care most about -- preserving the environment and quality of life in Sonoma County.

As a legislator representing Sonoma County and Santa Rosa, I maintained a strong record for environmental policies -- a 95-100% score from the California League of Conservation Voters. I fought for seniors by authoring legislation to prevent drug companies from raising the prices of prescription medications, and to keep mobile home ownership affordable. I support preserving open space, sustainable agriculture, and public input into the decision making process.

I remain committed to public service, serving on the Sonoma Valley Citizen's Advisory Commission, Sonoma Overlook Trail Task Force, Save Our Hospital Steering Committee, Advisory Board - Sonoma County Mentoring Alliance, Member-at-large - Sonoma County Vintners and Growers Alliance, Chair of the Sonoma County Housing Coalition and the Arts Guild of Sonoma.

I appreciate your consideration, and would be honored to represent you. I ask for your vote.
