I'm running for Congress because I believe that federal government has grown too big, too expensive and too controlling.
The 3 issues that form the foundation of my political platform are:
1. Cut taxes. I propose abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax of 18%. The sales tax would be reduced 2% points per year. After 9 years the sales tax would be fazed out. The government should reduce spending levels to match income. This position is similar to the current bills before Congress, HR 2525 and HR 2717.
2. Medicinal Marijuana. 8 states, including California, have passed medical marijuana laws. The federal government has refused to recognize those laws and continues to prosecute people who use marijuana even though their doctors have said it could help keep them alive. I want Congress to change the classification of marijuana to schedule II so doctors can legally prescribe it for their patients. I support the current bill before Congress, HR 2592.
3. Protect Social Security. When the federal government needs extra money they have been dipping in to the Social Security surplus. They say they will pay back the money sometime in the future. I am worried that when I and the rest of the people my age are ready to retire there won't be enough money for us. I will work for a law separating Social Security funds from the rest of the federal budget.
