Candidate's StatementBy Paul B. BlatzCandidate for Council Member; City of Ojai | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Why I am running for City CouncilAs an eighteen year resident of Ojai, Chairperson of Ojai's Planning Commission, and past member of Ojai's Redevelopment Commission, I am acutely aware that what we cherish most about living in our beautiful valley could be easily lost if we are not careful. In order to protect our village character and quality of life, it is essential we maintain the proper balance between our environmental and economic interests and appreciate and preserve our history in order to safeguard our future and achieve sustainability. Traffic is a major concern because it not only affects congestion on our streets but also the quality of the air we breath. A plan is needed to solve our current traffic problems and new projects within our city, as well as, those projects outside our city limits, must be highly scrutinized. Growth within Ojai must be controlled, well planned and concentrated within our city core to minimize impact on residential neighborhoods and open space. Affordable housing for our community needs to be addressed and we must continue to support youth programs. As a member of the City Council, I will do my best to preserve our quality of life while responsibly managing Ojai's financial affairs. |
