I am running for a second four-year term on the Claremont City Council in the election to be held on Tuesday, March 4. I seek your continued support, your encouragement and your ideas for a better Claremont. Participation in city government during the past four years has been challenging and sometimes tumultuous as well as interesting and rewarding. Like most desirable communities, ours is constantly evolving. The special qualities and values of Claremont have been carefully nurtured by years of collaboration, service and long-term vision provided by residents, city councils, city commissions and committees. I anticipate we will face the following challenges in 2003: General Plan revisions, a 30% water rate increase, freeway noise, traffic and signage issues, and protection of the hillsides and expansion of the Wilderness Park. The California economy may reshape our local budget beyond recognition in the next year, but I believe that Claremont residents are committed to cost effective services, healthy businesses, improved infrastructure, historical preservation, safe and diverse neighborhoods, park development and open and inclusive city government. Together we will work toward these goals. I am eager and prepared to use my experience in local and regional government, my broad-based volunteer experience, my business and work experience and my continued commitment to Claremont's vitality to preserve what is good and change what needs changing. |
