Political Philosophy for Craig Winkelman

One of government's most challenging impediments to operating effeciently is its ulimited capacity for obtaining additional tax dollars at will. Being able to continually demand and receive more money is a direct assault on creativity, responsibility, and accountability. This is true in personal life, private business, and should be understood in the public sector as well. Additionally, it seems that the attraction to proposing large-scale prestigious projects is nearly irresistible for many public leaders often resulting in little more than breaking budgets while benefiting only a small groups of citizens. I believe that addressing the many less prestigious projects over a larger scale can be much more beneficial to a greater number at a significantly smaller cost. Management in a successful business requires the assurance that all operations are organized for optimum efficiency, measured for effectiveness, supervised for accuracy, and performed at minimal cost with maximum return. Employees must be motivated by means beyond simply increasing compensation to achieve their full potential and contribute along with management to the success of the operation. I believe our local government can and should expect to be run in this same manner. |
