Many important decisions have not included an open and free discussion welcoming all stakeholders.
Most of the damage has already been done, unfortunately. This disaster does highlight, however, the need for better and more open communication between the board and the community. An independent committee with the necessary power and direction must be formed complying with the recently enacted "Strict Accountability" bond oversight legislation and MEET REGULARLY. Equally important is ensuring that the professionals closest to the classroom are actually heard. We must act in the open, not behind closed doors. We should not just tolerate dissent--we should solicit dissent. We should live up to our name--we should be "Trustees."
